PreS–This interactive board book dazzles the senses by portraying farm animals’ sounds and textures. ![]() Using a formula similar to its predecessors, Cat and Dog, Van Fleet's interactive board book identifies farm animals using simple, playful rhymes: "Mommy cow,/ Baby calf,/ Shaggy daddy bull./ Moo cow,/ Milk the cow-/ grab the udder, pull!" (The farmer's hands milk the cow at the pull of a tab, while a cat turns its mouth toward the spraying milk.) Textures-a woolly sheep, a duck's downy chest feathers-provide a touch-and-feel aspect, while flaps and pop-ups make this a playful excursion. Matthew Van Fleet, photos by Brian Stanton. ![]()

Tracing a trajectory over Gibson's work that brings him from an emphasis on the visual that elevates the human over posthuman entities to a perspective based on touch, a truly posthuman understanding of humans as networked with their environments, she argues for connections between the visual and the posthuman that have not been explored elsewhere, and that have implications for future work in posthumanism and the arts. If you’re going to blow it, make sure you look like planned it that way. It was the first time the term cyberpunk had been adopted by those who’d been labeled as such. Connecting his relational model of 'gestalt' psychology and imagery with that of the posthuman networked identities found in cyberpunk, the author draws out relations with key cultural moments of the last 40 years: postmodernism, posthumanism, 9/11, and the Anthropocene.īy identifying cyberpunk ways of seeing with cyberpunk ways of being, the author shows how a visual style is crucial to cyberpunk on a philosophical level, as well as on an aesthetic level. Mirrorshades was something of a coming out for cyberpunk. The best bit of this book (and the whole series) undoubtedly is the sibling relationship. (Warning: As I’m going to be discussing all three books in one post, you might find the reviews of books 2 and 3 spoiler-y since I’ll be noting how the plot progresses.) I loved the drama and the the way every single relationship is written! For a series that was recommended to me by a friend in my Lit class almost four years ago, I’m surprised I didn’t pick it up sooner, because it’s really not one to be missed! There’s also a prophecy that claims one of the sisters will either be the undoing of witches or will help them rise. It’s the story of three sisters who are all witches in a society where if you’re rumoured to be a witch you’re either imprisoned or hanged. This series has quickly become one of my absolute favourites. Born Wicked, Star Cursed, Sisters’ Fate by Jessica Spotswood ![]() |
